Marcus Aurelius, 161-180. Sestertius (Orichalcum, 33 mm, 29.76 g, 12 h), Rome, 161. IMP CAES M AVREL ANTONINVS AVG Laureate and cuirassed bust of Marcus Aurelius to right, seen from behind. Rev. TR POT XV COS III / S C Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus seated to left on curule chairs set on high platform, extending their right hands and holding rolls in their left; at foot of platform to left, lictor standing front, head to right, holding rod in his right hand and fasces in his left. BMC -. Cohen 787. MIR 2-6/35. RIC 820. Very rare. A boldly struck and unusually well preserved example. Minor smoothing, otherwise, good very fine.
